Hi there!

Hi there, I’m Katie, owner of Creativity and Co. I’m so glad you are here to learn all about building your own paint party business!

I would love to tell you a bit about me, just in case you have no idea who I am or how I got here.

In college I majored in English Communications and I worked at a local news station for way too long. It took years off my life and led me to depression…not fun. But, it also led me to self-discovery and self-reflection.

While at that job I got another degree in hospitality management, and if you think a communications degree is a waste of money, just wait until you see where a degree in hospitality management gets you.

Anyway, I’ve always wanted to work in events. I love taking other people’s money and throwing a party with it, but most of the event industry is setting up and breaking down events, and that's not what I envisioned.

My favorite part of that career brach as I will call it, was making videos. I went to different venues around New York City and I interviewed the owners and I got to be creative and work on marketing, which I love.

My next career move was working at a paint your own pottery studio. The owner of that place was who I wanted to be in five years, so this career jump made sense. She was super great in letting me host events like birthday parties and ladies’ nights, but she also held her business close to her heart, which I totally understand, so she didn’t let me come up with my own ideas, which is what I wanted to do.

During my time at the pottery studio, I decided to start hosting painting nights on the side, but I had to find a company that was the right fit. I could paint fine on pottery, but I doubted my ability to paint on canvas.

After a lot of research I found a company that painted on glassware. I signed up right away and was super excited to start my journey as a paint party host.

I hosted parties in New York City for a while. My first party was for two people. I almost canceled, but I’m so glad I didn’t because even with a small group, this career path is so fun!

My largest in person party to date was for 52 people. It was a bridal shower and I was so nervous, but I made my husband assist me and it went swimmingly.

Since then, I moved to New Jersey, the company I worked for was sold, and I did not renew my contract with them. I thought I could now venture out on my own and truly be my own boss. So I started Creativity and Co.

The dream was to have a studio where I can host events, much like the paint your own pottery place, but when I was writing up my business plan, the pandemic hit and timing could not have been worse. So, I have hosted a few virtual craft classes, but now as the world opens up again, we are ready for more in person paint parties, and I’m so excited.

Something you may not know about me is that I am painfully shy. Like, my shyness has ruined a lot of opportunities in my life type of shy. However, when I am passionate about something, I light up. I actually call myself a shy extrovert. I have introverted tendencies for sure, but when I love something, I love it, like internet marketing, making videos, and hosting paint parties.

I am so excited to teach you what I know, so you don’t have to go on such a winding road like I did, unless you are currently on one, in which case I’d love to talk about it and commiserate.

In either case, you are here, you are ready to learn about hosting, marketing, and more, and you are one step closer to being your own boss building your own paint party business.

See you inside!
